*Vrana woke suddenly with the scream of an outraged sea dragon.

WHAT happened to MY EGGS? the black seadragoness screamed from her nest. There is PAINT on my EGGS! They will pay, they will all pay!

Vrana had no idea sea dragons could be that loud. The sounds slowly stopped, but it took awhile for her to fall back asleep.

Vrana came at a dead run, dark blonde hair flying behind her. "What? Emaeliass, this isn't some trick, is it? They've been happening all day"

No, asserted Gliaoz the last bonder to be searched for this clutch. The violet sea dragon from Vallen Cove stretched leisurely, eyes warily on the snarling Khaness. They're hatching, well and true.

All the bonders waited, eyes fixed on the nest. An indigo appeared first, scanning the bonders casually.

He sat there for so long that Emaeliass flung her head in irritation. Well, are you going to get on with it, or not? she demanded, her expression dangerous.

But I already have, said the hatchling peevishly, his high, clear voice piercing.

The dragoness' eyes flashed. And? What's your name, and who's your bond?

The hatchling stared mysteriously at her for several minutes until the blue looked ready to explode. Cietoss, idiot. Do you really think that any of them are worthy of me? His tone was bored beyond comprehension.

Cietoss, Emaeliass tried to grit, but there was too much satisfaction lurking in the depths of her alto to manage it properly. Come into the water before your limbs drop off, you smarmy little creature.

The little dragon leisurely strolled down to the water. Then Vrana's attention was attracked back to the eggs on the beach. The second egg to hatch revealed a night/black calf.

Tanzeryss

Vrana, she called with a voice that sent vibrations through the onlookers' bones. Vrana. Come with me. Come with Tanzeryss, into the wine-dark sea.

Vrana smiled and quickly came to the hatchling's aid. The creatures ink black skin was smooth and soft. Her hide glistening in the bright Alskyren sun. Vrana dove into the water with Tanzeryss. The black was so graceful in the water, even though she was only a hatchling. Vrana knew right then that black Tanzeryss was hers and she was the dragon's. Nothing would ever separate them.

Tanzeryss

*The day was slightly over cast, but Vrana doubted it would storm. The sun was a quarter of the way into the sky. The waves were calm and the air was still. Vrana was preparing to take a swim. She hadn't really gotten a chance to. Taking care of Tanzeryss left her very tired, but she loved her little black and would do any thing for her.

What's that? It makes you look funny. Tanzeryss said peering up at her rider sitting on the dock.

"It's called a snorkel. I use it when I go swimming," Vrana told her bond.

Oh.....I don't get it?

Vrana gave a little laugh. "Here let me show you." Tanzeryss watched as Vrana pulled the goggles into place and bit down on her mouth piece. The woman pushed off the dock and began to paddle. The night-black sea dragon followed swimming under her. Vrana took a breath and dove straight down. The little sea dragon circled the woman in her descent. The silence that Vrana enjoyed so much enveloped her. She could barely hear Tanzeryss swimming next to her. Vrana slowed, glancing over at her bond. The black had closed a clear lid over her jeweled eyes. Vrana reached out and scratched the dragon's chin affectionately. Then they both jetted to the surface.

Vrana blew the water out of her snorkel with a mighty blow.

I see now. It still makes you look funny though.
