When I wanted to learn HTML I searched the web trying to learn it. But no one would tell me the "Secret". They tell you everything else..., but not the "Secret". I worked and hunted and searched, and found NOTHING THAT MADE ANY SENSE. These computer people seem to think you should know everything, but well, Duh, I don't ! I finally found a book that told me the "Secret". You want to know the "Secret" ? It is simply this. Everything you do in HTML has a start "<tag>" and a end "</tag>". What is between the arrows "<tag>" is the tag that tells the browser what to do. Then, there is the end tag "</tag>" that tells the browser to stop doing whatever it is the first tag told it to do. For example this paragraph starts with a <p> and ends with a </p>. The " p " is the type of tag that is used. In this case, the " p " is for Paragraph. There are many different kinds of tags, each giving the your web browser a different command. This gets sort of complicated, but it's really not that bad. You will need to get a good book on these tags and how to set them up. The book that taught me is " Teach Yourself HTML In 24 Hours " by Dick Oliver. A good on line tutorial is " So, you want to make a Web Page ! " by Joe Barta.
Once you get a page written up you will need to have some sort of FTP program to up load your page to your ISP server. You will also have to call your server and tell them to "turn on" your web space. Some people like a HTML Editor to work from. Personally, I like Notepad. When you are writing the HTML code, only change one thing at a time. You must be very accurate, miss one dot or "<", and it will change things like you won't believe ! I love writing code, I find it to be very restful. I hope you like it too.
One last thing, if you site is only a commercial site. If all you are doing is selling something, MAKE SURE that the Free scripts and programs you are getting off the web are for commercial sites. Lots of stuff is only Free to personal and non-profit useage. If your making money, they want their share of it, and that is only fair.
